We're Having a Birthday - Celebrating 50 Years

Born November 24 1966 and still going strong at 50

November 24, 2016 will mark the Golden Anniversary of Sherbrooke Art Society. Founded in 1966 Sherbrooke Art Society had it's first inaugural meeting at the Upwey Pre-School Centre. On November 24 the first formal meeting was held at the Upwey Progress Hall. Monthly meetings were then moved the Upwey Fire Station and eventually in 1971 moved to what was known as the Moulin Rouge Gallery in Belgrave formally the Red Mill Cafe, which became the official office for the society. In 1975 negotiations were under way to purchase the building, a Corporate Society was formed and some of the members acted as guarantors on a loan to enable the purchase. The building was later listed by the Yarra Ranges Council to be a building of historic and social significance and is currently protected with a Heratage Overlay
