Jeffrey Murphy

Jeff Murphy paints in the style of the Tonal Masters with fresh vigorous brush strokes and exquisite tones of fresh colour and muted shades. With soft lost edges Jeff aims to capture a romance in his still life and floral studies with a veil of soft light.

He began his career at the age of 27 at Sherbrooke Art Society under the expert tutorage of Glenda Wise. Jeff continued to study privately with Glenda a time after that.

Jeff’s keen fondness of flowers and gardening comes through in his work today as he expertly depicts flowers in his paintings. From simple floral studies to much larger works, including still life, portraits and interior studies ; his keen eye for tone and detail, Jeff captures the ephemeral beauty of his subjects turning everyday objects into things of beauty.

He is currently one of Sherbrooke Art Societies teachers where he teaches the traditional method from the Meldrum Tonal School of Painters. He is also the former President of Sherbrooke Art Society where he served 5 years between 2011 and 2016.

Jeff has won numerous awards for his work including the Roberts Award and The Mavis Hill Award in 2014 and is available for demonstrations and workshops for groups and societies.
